Here are some never-before-seen character sketches I did while designing Beryl & Rawrg last fall! For the main part where we first see both of them together, I tried to give her a skeptical, static stance to contrast with his crazy, over-the-top antics.
Here’s the final project for my first official animation class! I’m pleased with how it turned out – lots of in-between drawings and great feedback from my instructor throughout the process, and I even managed to get it done before the deadline despite a bout of pneumonia at the end of the semester. This was pretty fun to do; I’m looking forward to next…
I’m happy to show you the animatic for my final project – it’s a basic layout for the timing and key frames of a project. The assignment was to create an animation between 10 & 20 seconds long, employing the principles of animation we’ve learned throughout the semester. I am already slated to go over that running time, but hopefully will be able to…
I was nervous about approaching a 4-legged walk for my animation class – the 2-legged cycles seemed like enough! But I think I like 4 legs better – with an upright walk you still have the same number of appendages, but a 4-legged walk everything’s closer together and easier to sync up than swinging arms. I knew from the moment I saw this little…
Walk cycles are pretty difficult to do – you’ve got arms & legs moving all over, the whole body moving up & down – lots of pieces to keep track of. It takes at least 16 drawings to get a good cycle down. I didn’t love my first attempt at a profile walk cycle this semester – I kind of jumped into it without…
Remember this little fishbunny character, turning its head? I’ve added a “take” to it… as in “double take”. It’s too bad I haven’t worked on sound yet, I think this little guy would like a sound effect.
Here’s the animation assignment from last week – I’m catching up! We had to create 3 key poses, and animate in between them. Although I spent a long time on this assignment I don’t love the result – I didn’t put much into the character design and it shows. When changing poses, it’s best to have an interesting action in between the two main…
Oh my, I am behind again on posting. This animation was for an assignment two weeks ago – we had to demonstrate a “stagger” animation, defined as kind of a shaking motion when someone is under stress (pulling/pushing/lifting something heavy), or if they’re shivering from cold or quivering from anger. The best way to animate this is to draw a series of frames with…
Sorry for the delay! This week was a little crunched for time, so the blog posting got up late. Last week’s Traditional Animation assignment was to animate two different kinds of head turns – a classical, fully-animated version and a “limited” or “stylized” animation, along the lines of UPA’s Gerald McBoingBoing . I had a lot of fun on these – I designed a fishbunny (from…
Here’s the work from our third week of traditional animation classes! This goose was pretty fun to do – I spent a lot of time watching reference videos on Getty Images. The “flag blowing in the wind” was a little more frustrating, but still a great experience. Think of any kind of clothing – a skirt, open jacket, cape, etc – all of these…
