author visits

Sarah’s presentation was engaging and inspiring. The students were very interested throughout the presentation. Having a window into her creative process was so valuable for our 1st and 2nd graders who are just getting started on their lifelong adventures of reading, writing and drawing. – Medford, MA

Thanks for your interest in having me present at your school!

I love sharing my picture book-making process and getting students excited about writing and illustration.

My goal is to inspire creativity, growth mindset and a love of reading and storytelling. My work with hand-drawn animation as well as my experiences teaching at the Museum of Science’s Overnight program lend a unique perspective and approach.

My visits are full of behind-the-scenes images, detailing my process of writing & illustration.  I talk about my connections to animation and how I gather ideas, draft stories, sketch, revise, and create final art.  There’s time for Q&A, and often we can fit in a sneak peek into future projects or a quick drawing demo.  However, if you have a specific part of the process where you would like some extra emphasis, please let me know!

Most presentations run about 45 minutes, tailored for grades K-2 or 3-5.  I’ll bring a presentation on my iPad or laptop with VGA & HDMI adapters, and ask that you provide a projector, a screen and attentive teachers to assist with classroom management.

For the 2019-2020 academic year, the fee for a full day (up to 4 presentations) is $1,000 for schools within 50 miles of Wakefield, Massachusetts.  For Title 1 schools, a discounted fee may be available – contact me for more information.

For schools more than 50 miles from Wakefield, MA, the fee is $1,250/day, plus travel costs.

We loved your presentation. So much of what you talked about was easy for the kids to understand and made them feel like they could be writers. Your slides were accessible and fun. I walked away with ideas to set up journals … Thank you for a great 45 mins! – Reading, MA

“Sarah Lynne’s experience as an animator makes her a welcome and relatable resource within the world of publishing.  Students will find her presentation inspirational.  She is a great motivator for both aspiring writers and reluctant writers.” – Wakefield, MA

I liked it all. Your journey, writing process, expressing importance of reading, starting small and not worrying so much about the end results at first – just take the initial step and try.  – Reading, MA

*Virtual Visits are also available via Skype or Google Hangouts – 15 minute Q&A’s are free for classes who have read my books; longer sessions tailored to your needs may be arranged for a fee.
